An Automated, Self-Powered, and Integrated Analytical Platform for On-Line and In Situ Air Quality Monitoring

Air quality monitoring networks are challenging to implement due the bulkiness and high prices of standard instruments low accuracy most described low-cost approaches. This paper presents a low-cost, automated, self-powered analytical platform determine hourly levels O3 NO2 in urban atmospheres. Atmospheric air was sampled at constant airflow 100 mL min−1 directly into vials containing 800 µL indigotris sulfonate Griess–Saltzman reagent solutions for ozone nitrogen dioxide, respectively. The analysis holder, light-emitting diode digital light sensor, enabled acquisition signal on-site immediately after sampling time. data were transmitted laptop via Bluetooth, rendering remote monitoring. automated using two Arduino Uno boards fed with portable battery recharged solar panel. method provided limit detection 5 1 ppbv NO2, respectively, which is below maximum established by worldwide regulatory agencies. employed both pollutants atmosphere Brazilian cities, one them equipped an official station. Comparing results techniques revealed suitable proposed platform. Information technology (IT) allied reliable chemical methods demonstrated potential create providing valuable information on pollutants’ emissions ensuring safety population.
